Knowledge Building

Where ideas come to play.

What does learning look like when idea creation and idea improvement are at the centre of the classroom learning experience?

In a Knowledge Building community, students take charge of their curriculum and learning at the highest cognitive levels - wondering, knowledge and idea generation, idea improvement and assessing their own progress - leaving the teacher free to co-learn and guide their student's natural curiosity about how the world works.

If you believe that ALL students can be self-motivated to learn with questions and ideas they create, then Knowledge Building is the right environment for any classroom and any curriculum.

What is Knowledge Building?

How can student questions and ideas lead to deep learning in any classroom? Learn about the foundations of Knowledge Building and the principles that drive learning.  Find out what teachers and students are saying about Knowledge Building in

their classrooms.

Get started with Knowledge Building

Knowledge Building uses a series of actions that guide teachers and students to work with questions and ideas with efforts toward improving them.  Working within a community, students inquire collectively to improve the knowledge and ideas of others.

"I would describe Knowledge Building as a fun way to learn new ideas through your own and group members' research. You get to add onto each others learning, ask new questions and build and share theories that you come up with."

"Knowledge building is a great way of learning. It is a way to gain knowledge on a topic by sharing information and ideas within a community then building on each other's knowledge.
