ABOUT ME

Hi!  My name is Dr. Glenn Wagner, teacher, educational consultant and self-professed educational 'junkie'.   

 

I have been a Knowledge Builder for over a decade and a practicing teacher in Ontario, Canada for over thirty years.  My teaching area is junior science and physics.  I earned my Ph.D. in education at the University of Toronto with Marlene Scardamalia as my supervisor, one of the originators of Knowledge Building pedagogy.  My journey has been nothing but transformative for my teaching practice especially understanding how the power of community and collaboration can impact learning and social cohesion. 

 

I feel so strongly about the power of Knowledge Building to improve education that I created this website to help push Knowledge Building further into classrooms and schools around the world.  This website is dedicated to those teachers who want to push their professional practice who believe students can work together as a community with questions and ideas they create to help understand their world.  Not a year goes by where I don't marvel at their capacity for high-end work resulting in learning beyond the stated curriculum using nothing but curiosity, ideas and community to get them there.

I have designed and delivered numerous workshops on Knowledge Building with teachers both in Canada and the United States.  It gives me immense pleasure when I receive feedback from teachers and students about how they enjoyed Knowledge Building and what it has meant to them.  For students, motivation to learn reaches new levels when given choice and freedom to learn in a Knowledge Building classroom.  For teachers new to Knowledge Building, the initial experience is often one of surprise that students can learn so deeply as community with their questions and ideas.
